DeltaForce Article January 2012
This is an article I wrote earlier this year on the DJ duo Deltaforce in LA, it’s a bit out of date but still worth a read if you get the chance!
One of the latest growing trends in new music is the rise of the DJ culture. Talented and dedicated, these new DJ’s have the unprecedented ability to breathe life into the club culture evident both sides of the Atlantic. This phenomenon is storming through the West coast of the US, perhaps more so than our capital, and is centred on the cities of Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
Two of the newest DJ’s to hit the scene are DJ1mor aka Kristian Bonk and J1der aka Joshua Gomez. Together they form Deltaforce and are fast becoming established as one of the hottest DJ acts in LA. Based in the City of Angels they have a wealth of musical history and culture at their feet, readily accessible to build a new DJ empire from an already more than significant online following. Across Twitter, Facebook, SoundCloud and YouTube, Deltaforce has been expanding its audience through live shows streamed online to countries all over the world. Over the summer they ran a series of shows called LIV Mondays which had live audiences of over a thousand people with purely viral promotion. “I love LIV Mondays, as a matter of fact we might be bringing them back VERY SOON, I loved talking to the fans and being myself on camera” says DJ1mor. Publishing mixes through social media they are now growing an international fan-base whilst performing in both Las Vegas, LA and as part of the Fuze It Worldwide global label.
They come from a musical background linked to the Black Eyed Peas but DJ1mor and J1der each have their own different distinctive styles which they combine together in their shows to create a mix of sounds ranging from hip-hop to house. This fusion of sound is what makes them unique: performing as a group is something most DJ’s egos can’t take but these two combine their efforts to create a complete show, with DJ1mor describing J1der as his “little brother”. Whilst both still young at 18, their ambition and motivation to achieve never ceases. They operate with the recognition that hard work will be necessary to achieve their goals, but they still never give up. As an example DJ1mor’s plans for this year include: “DJ 5 days of the week, go on a 3 month world tour, and make over a million this year”; a list of three challenges that come 2013 will have been completed.
Thanks to this dedication to their work Deltaforce have had successes performing along the East Coast. “My favorite event I did with my lil bro was the AMA after party, we ate like kings, DJed like rock stars, and had a good time with the Delta family as well as the Peas” says DJ1mor. “Right now I am bouncing from club to club every weekend, I don’t want to be held down to one spot just yet but my past residences were at the Holy Water Room in Pasadena and Sadistic in Hollywood”. What about the next event on the Deltaforce agenda? “Hopefully Electro Beach haha, but if that doesn’t go as planned we are working on doing a show at the Roxy Theater in Hollywood and then the El Rey theater in Hollywood as well”.
Every artist has their story to tell: “I was 9 years old when I got my first CD player and a Lincoln Park CD for Christmas. I would go in the restroom and play the CD and act like I was ‘DJing’ in the mirror in front of thousands of people, jumping up and down and telling people to make some noise. Then when I was in 10th grade I got my first mixer, The TORQ X-SESSION PRO, I practiced every day after school and I met Josh in English and Math class. We become friends in an instant and I told him to come to my house and DJ with me. After we had our first session Josh asked me if I wanted to be a DJ with him and form a group called DELTAFORCE: I said of course let’s do this. Ever since then Josh is like my little brother and we are the DELTAFORCE”.
